08/08/2024

If you’re going on holiday to Berwickshire or East Lothian, you’re in for a treat! There’s so much to do here, you might struggle to fit it all into your schedule. That’s why we’ve done it for you – read on to find our 7-night South East Scotland holiday itinerary.

A family enjoying food and drinks indoors at The Drift Inn bar and restaurant

The Drift Inn

Day 1

Pack up the car and drive to your holiday destination! We have four holiday parks in South East Scotland – Pease Bay, Thurston Manor, Scoutscroft, and Coldingham Bay, each offering a range of self-catering accommodation.

Head to Reception to pick up your keys – don’t worry if you’re early, you’re welcome to use our on-park facilities while you wait. Similarly, if you arrive late, there will be a poster at Reception instructing you on how to collect your keys. You can also pick up a Discovery Trail booklet for just £3.

Then, you can settle into your accommodation and pop the kettle on. You might chill for a while, unpack your bags, or maybe you just can’t wait to get out there and explore the park. Get your bearings and take note of the facilities you’d like to use during your stay.

By the evening, you’ll probably be feeling peckish, so why not head to the on-park bar & restaurant for some delicious, freshly prepared food and drink?

Thirlestane Castle

Day 2

Rise and shine! After a good night’s sleep, get ready for a day of exploring. Our holiday parks are located near some of the most impressive castles in Scotland. A couple of our favourites are Thirlestane Castle and Bamburgh Castle.

In the afternoon, you might fancy a dip. Thurston Manor has its own heated indoor swimming pool - you can book a swimming slot with Reception. Pease Bay is located right on a beautiful beach, with soft golden sand and blue waves perfect for a refreshing dip. Similarly, Coldingham Bay and Scoutscroft are a short drive from the nearby beach. Note: when swimming in Scotland, we recommend wearing a wetsuit!

Our self-catering accommodation allows you to save a bit of money on your holiday by not visiting a restaurant every night. If you’d like to cook some of your own meals, it’s a good idea to get a big shop in near the beginning of your holiday. Here are some nearby supermarkets:

  • Coldingham Bay and Scoutscroft: Tesco Supertsore, Berwick Upon Tweed – 16 miles / 24-minute drive
  • Thurston Manor: Asda Supermarket, Dunbar – 4.1 miles / 8-minute drive
  • Pease Bay: Asda Supermarket, Dunbar – 8.8 miles / 15-minute drive
Edinburgh City

Edinburgh

Day 3

Did you know that our holiday parks in South East Scotland are located under an hour’s drive away from Edinburgh? So, if you want to explore the historic capital city, Berwickshire and East Lothian are great bases.

With a day trip to Edinburgh you’ll have so much to do, including shopping, visiting museums, and grabbing some lunch at a quirky cafe. For fans of walking, we recommend heading up to Arthur’s Seat – you’ll be rewarded with incredible views over the city.

Then, when returning to your accommodation, why not get a takeaway? If you’re staying at Scoutscroft, we have a takeaway fish and chip shop right here on park, offering the perfect, delicious seaside meal.

Dunbar Clifftop

Day 4

From coastal paths to forest trails, there are so many walking routes in South East Scotland. So, grab your walking boots, pack a picnic, and head out there! You can find some of our top picks on our blog here, including Berwickshire Coastal Path, John Muir Link, and the Dunbar Clifftop Trail.

In the evening, you can sit back and relax while we entertain you. Take a look at the entertainment schedule for your chosen park – we have entertainment for all ages, with all sorts to keep you smiling like incredible live singers, cash prize bingo, and pop parties with our resident foxes, Vinnie and Violet.

Surfing at Coldingham Bay

Day 5

With so many beautiful beaches in South East Scotland, the area is also a water sports hotspot. Coldingham Bay and Pease Bay beaches are both very popular amongst surfers due to their exposed positions. Less experienced water sports fans might wish to take some lessons – as a Verdant Leisure guest, you can make the most of discounts with local businesses:

If water sports isn’t your thing, or you have small children with you, there’s plenty to explore closer to your accommodation, too. All of our parks in South East Scotland have play parks and outdoor spaces to run around, and many are home to our fascinating Discovery Trails. After picking up your booklet from Reception, set off around the park and see what wildlife you can spot. Vinnie and Violet have created this trail especially for little ones, allowing them to complete questions, games and activities while looking at the local nature.

Royal Yacht Britannia

Day 6

For the last full day of your holiday, it’s great to learn about the area you’ve been staying in. There are so many great museums to explore, like The Royal Yacht Britannia, once home to the Royal Family. Or, Eyemouth Museum, which is set in a bustling harbour and documents the fishing history of the town. As a Verdant Leisure guest, you can grab 15% off entry to the Scottish Seabird Centre, where you can learn about Scotland’s incredible marine wildlife.

If you’re bringing little ones, they’re sure to love East Links Family Park. Located in Dunbar, this family attraction provides entertainment for all, with animals, soft play, trampolines, climbing frames, go karts, and more! Plus, you can get a 20% discount as a Verdant Leisure guest by picking up a voucher from Reception, or booking online as a concession.

Following a busy day of fun, it’s time to relax. Whether you choose to grab a drink at the bar, watch a movie in your accommodation, or enjoy some live entertainment, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on your holiday.

Caravan accommodation

Day 7

Before your journey home, you’ll want to fuel up (and we don’t just mean the car). Head along to the on-park bar & restaurant for a scrumptious, hearty breakfast (this is subject to availability, please check the opening times of your chosen venue). Then, it’s time to pack up the car – make sure you haven’t left anything in the accommodation – before driving home with all your holiday memories.
