Blast Beach

Its industrial history gave this beach its unique name. In the 1800's, the beach was used as a location for blast furnaces, meaning Blast Beach is a great place to visit for fans of history. What's more, it's located right by the landmark of Nose's Point, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Experts also say that this beach is an absolute gold mine if you're on the hunt for sea glass.

There's plenty of free parking at the beach, and food and shopping facilities in the nearby town of Seaham.

Blackhall Rocks Beach

Another beach with an industrial history, this stretch of beach was once linked to the nearby Blackhall Colliery. Now, after millions of pounds were spent cleaning the beach up, it's a lovely, quiet place to enjoy a stroll or family seaside day out near Durham.

There are plenty of rock pools to be explored, and the cliffs backing the beach, part of the Durham Heritage Coast, are the perfect spot for a walk.

During summer days, you can spot an array of wildflowers in the meadow. The nearby village has a convenience store, garage, and fish & chip shop.
