Location: Thurston Manor Leisure Park, Innerwick, Dunbar, East Lothian EH42 1SA

Salary: £11.87 per hour

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time. Our Bars and Restaurants are open 7 days per week. Shifts include day times and evenings as trade demands.

About the Role

Our chefs help prepare meals and snacks to order throughout the day, producing consistently well presented, high quality and tasty food from our menu and special boards. They assist our Head Chef to prepare the kitchen stations ready for service, ensuring they are stocked appropriately and cleaned regularly throughout the shift. This role is key to ensuring that we can provide the quality food service that our guests expect, providing them with another option to self-catering and allowing them to spend more precious time with family and friends.

Typical duties and responsibilities include:

  • Preparing ingredients and foods according to recipe standards
  • Cooking food to order including grilling, sauteing, frying and boiling according to recipe and guest orders
  • Amending menu items to account for allergies and/or dietary requirements as needed
  • Plating and presentation of orders according to company standards
  • Clearing and cleaning, ensuring the work area is kept clean and tidy to avoid cross-contamination of foods
  • Ensuring food products are stored properly, at the correct temperatures and in the correct area
  • Safely operate a wide range of kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, fryers, grills and other specialist equipment

About the Person

We are looking for someone with good basic knowledge of food preparation and presentation. Previous experience in catering or cooking to order, which can include experience from college or experience cooking at home for your family, is desirable. You will need to be enthusiastic, friendly and passionate about food.

Above all, you will need to have the right attitude. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and so we expect you to do everything in your power to make their Verdant experience the absolute best it could possibly be. We don’t believe in ‘that’s not my job’ so you will need to be adaptable and flexible to help the wider park team meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in catering/cooking to order
  • A commitment to producing consistent and excellent quality food.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards in catering.
  • Knowledge of food allergies and dietary restrictions
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work well under pressure
  • A relevant catering qualification will be advantageous, however training and support can be provided to help you reach your full potential.
